Research Paper

When you are doing a paper and you need to get some research half the time people use the internet. This assignment was a little different. For my research paper I did my topic on the way media projects the female through print, magazines, television and articles is well characterized with the female form in sexuality. To prove my argument I used the Suffolk Databases. This assignment can be very relevant to you because half of you have access to these. These articles are scholary articles and not information that you do not know if it is true, which happens sometimes with the ones on the internet. They are very useful and when you are doing a paper, or anything you need research for they are good to use. I learned that its so much easier. There are so many different databases with all different topics its great. In my research paper you will see different situations of advertisemnt throughout the form of a female through sexuality. I liked doing this paper because a lot of what some of the articles said is so true that I had the same exact points and ideas. You will as well learn some things that are postive about being a female model and as well some negatives. Its interesting to see that the female sexuality the way its advertised, its through so many different kind of things, several prints, magazines, televison advertisments and many more!

Through media, the manner of the male verses the manner of the female vary. The way media projects the female through print, magazines, television and articles is well characterized with the female form in sexuality. The female form in sexuality creates this taboo that relates to many concerns. As well as showing the female as a specific character form, that not everybody can relate to.
As you look around today the way the female form of sexuality is advertised through print ad articles  is very frequent. The probability of how it used to be and how it is now it has highly increased. According to Helen Jubran in her article Colt of the Body Beautiful advertising the female form of sexuality in print ads is at its high. Amanda Beard who is well known for winning her seven Olympic medals for swimming since the games has brought some of the biggest companies to her worldwide. Companies like Red Bull, Penta Water, and Oroweat Bread. She recently has made a cover for Speedo's new line of active-wear which will be featured in more then one million dollars worth of print ads. Because of her rise to fame she was named one of the sexiest females of 2005 by ESPN. As Si's swimsuit editor says,"She's an amazing athlete with a gorgeous body and beautiful eyes. She has it all." Her exposure in men's magazines and print ads has brought her name up to the spotlight, and with the increasing interest in her body, more opportunity to sell herself as an athlete with sex appeal. Beard because of all of this recognition to her body and her sexuality through the female forum she now charges at a minimum of $15,000 any appearance she shows up to. Amanda Beard is not the only one, many olympic stars have been circulated around posing in states of being undressed, for the purpose of the reaction of others. Because of this, the press has increased attention for all of these women around. According to Helen Jubran, "For female athletes, a focus on the sex appeal of an individual's body not only leads to greater recognition, but also an occasion to earn more money and build a career that extends beyond that of sportswoman." This is so true, which is the point I am trying to come across. The female form of sexuality through print ads focus all on the individulas body. All of these women pose sexually so they receive feedback and arousal from others. They have to be hot, and have that certain look to be able to do those things and be named for instance sexiest female athlete just like Amanda Beard.
In Helen Jubran's article Colt of the Body Beautiful, the female form of sexuality is well produced as well in Magazine articles. According to Helen, Playboy which is one of the biggest sex magazines out there has done its part to package Olympic athletes as sex kittens, advertising their womanhood and implied desire for hetero sex. There spread is featured with ten pages of naked female Olympians from six of the competing nations. If you ever come across one of these pages you will see that these females are varied in different poses from pornographically demure to seductive, and other poses thrown in for good measure. This is just not okay. What has our society turned in to. Why should girls be posing naked and have everybody in the world see it. You see Playboy is a lot bigger then Playgirl. Men get excited when they see a female posing half naked. The female form of sexuality is advertised every where you look. Even on magazines like Cosmopolitan, or  People. The girls may not be half naked but the front cover is always a celebrity that is in a bathing suit, or wearing an outfit that shows cleavage. Sometimes sports olympians as well try to pose and look sexy to try and get some kind of recognition or awareness for their sport. Wearing short shorts, with a zipper down shirt to show off their boobs, with sexy scenery seems to be the way they are doing it these days. Its pretty dirty that girls feel its okay to pose naked in magazines that are public. If you go to a store and pick up a Playboy Magazine you can just easily skim the pages and get a taste at what you want to fantasize. Children starting at the age of 12 already try to look at these things. This then leads to watching actual porn on the internet and more. The way feminism is brought about through magazines is not private. The access is so easy its remarkable. There is no way to stop these things either because girls are getting paid to do it and they do not care. They figure they have a hot body why not pose naked? Girls love the fact that boys are chasing them. These men do not know the difference between fantasy and reality which is why they fantasize over these women because there perfect.
As you may see the way sexuality in a female is bought about is not only in print articles and magazine articles, but especially in television. If you have not noticed this then I do not know what kind of television you have been watching. According to psychologist Dr. Carol Moog, "Sex is everywhere, Advertisers are going to see what they can get away with on network TV." In the article Underwear ads caught in bind over sex appeal they are right on there points. Christy Turlington a very popular model has been posturing in various modes of being under dressed for big retailers like Calvin Klein. On CBS television on "Late Show With David Letterman," and other after-hours fare. That commercial, created in house, has drawn little attention, but has bought more people to like Calvin Klein. Not only is Calvin Klein the only person trying to bring about sex appeal in the female forum, but Victoria Secrets. Victoria Secret well known for their angels models is a huge retailer throughout the nation. With television commercials always with beautiful girl models who are only wearing panties and bras, sometimes posing naked but have it so that they are covered up are a perfect example of sex appeal. According to the article Underwear ads caught in bind over sex appeal, "Victoria Secret will tune into the times with a network TV commercial from Tarlow Advertising, New York. The spot features supermodel Claudia Schiffer adjusting her cotton undergarments and undulating to music in a manner suggestive of Demi Moore in "Striptease," though considerably tamer." Not only retail stores are advertising sex appeal, but commercials like shampoo ones too. According to the article Underwear ads caught in bind over sex appeal, " It was not until 1995, when a spot from Wells Rich Greene BDDP showed a nearly orgasmic woman washing her hair with Clairol's Herbal Essence Shampoo. Now every shampoo commercial has the same kind of content. The very pretty women, stroking her hair, with an orgasmic voice. According to Page Thompson  executive VP-U.S. media director at DDB Needham Worldwide, New York, "Advertisers are pounding down the barriers." He says because of such sex appeal on television the line is being drawn from not showing them until at least 9 pm. Reason being a lot of more adult programs show at those late hours. He also said, "the networks will put sexier, more explicit advertising after 9 p.m. too." Obviously it means something if a commercial cannot be shown during the day, maybe its to much sex appeal? What good will that do if they can only show it after 9 pm. The female in sex appeal on television is to much and now almost any retailer is trying to advertise that sexy commercial with most of the time a girl. Victoria Secret has so many different commercials that deal with only girls, all built the same, all gorgeous, and all half naked. From what I remember it was never a constant thing with sex appeal, after sex appeal. The argument here is its to much, females and sex appeal on television is like to the level we do not want to get to. Its to much, and should not be on television especially for children. Nine O'clock is not that late, children are still up and could see these commercials and such.
The way the sex appeal is advertised in a female through articles is as well frequent. According to the studying of advertising and society, "Certain issues regarding sex, gender, and sexism are of paramount importance." In other words how sex is used to represent gender, how its advertised to sell, and how  advertising depicts sexual behavior and relations. The female form of sex in articles on the internet is well published as well. With articles on females who are posing naked, or who are doing some kind of sexual relation. According to advertising professor Tom Reichert who spent more then a decade researching the history of sex in advertising, before finding an answer he had to ask the question first what is sex in advertising? He came up with, "Sex in advertising is often characterized as showing attractive models in stages of undress, models displayed or posing decoratively, or models engaged in suggestive behavior, either alone or with others." I think his quotation is exactly on the key. This is very relevant to modern day culture. Any article that has to do with advertising sex has to relate to the sexuality in the female. Most of the time these models make up that perfect female. Reichert also concludes that using sex in advertising has frequently, but not always, increased consumer interest and often aided in the selling products and building strong brand identities. Which like I mentioned earlier Victoria Secret, and Calvin Klein definitely do this throughout television ads.  In advertisements they tell us what is sexy, they show people in various states of love-making, they idealize and idolize certain kinds of bodies over others especially the female form, they depict "vanilla" as well as "alternative" forms of sexual behavior, and so on. In short, the ads not only sell products but also sell a particular conception of sex itself. That was according to article Sex and Advertising, Which I believe is correct and is what most of these articles are trying to do. Sell sex in their product, to get people to either fantasize or buy. If you look at any article that you find in Playboy they all have to do with the female form in sexuality as well. Articles and the female form in sexuality are well distributed through media and sky rocket each and everyday. Men love it. Women are not as crazy as men are and they don't fantasize over them to the level they do. Men take it to the next level where they get perverted, and really once again mix up reality and fantasy.
According to the article, "Using Sexual Appeals in Advertising to Sell Cosmetic Surgery advertisements position surgery as a means of boosting sex-esteem, and enhancing one's sexual attractiveness, a pattern different from that of branded consumer products and services. Invasive procedures such as liposuction and breast augmentation are the top procedures advertised with sexual appeals and most advertisements feature nude or partially-nude white female models. Its unbelievable that even surgery is advertising the female form is sexuality. I believe the reason that they would do something like this because they think if they advertise the beautiful half naked female, then if they do this procedure that is being advertised through all types of prints, then maybe they could look just like that. When a female sees another female posing half naked with there boobs looking very attractive for some reason other women they feel maybe they can look just like that. It gives them a push, and a boost of self esteem because a lot of times most women are not happy with themselves. When they put a young female model with no wrinkles trying to sell Botox for instance, they think if they get this procedure done they will look just as good. It gives other women self confidence, and hope to look better then they imagined. Most cosmetic surgery today the majority of the time is females. As I mentioned the boobs, the wrinkles, getting liposuction, there are so many things a female can do to there body. When somebody is trying to advertise cosmetic surgery they know to put a perfect shaped female so that they can sell more of what they are advertising.
The female form of sexuality in the media could really have an effect on the models. Half the time that female who is posing naked it is a model. Models need to stay fit, and look however the company they are modeling for how they want them to look. It causes models to be very unhealthy to the point where they sometimes can even be bulimic or anorexic. Models cannot live their lives normally. They are getting paid by some company and they have to do as told. If the company wants them to loose five pounds for the commercial they have to. Every single model has the same structure. They are beautiful, thin, long legs, there is nothing wrong with them. Its not easy being a model because everyone is watching.  Models may make a lot of money, which could be why they do it, but they set a bad example on younger girls as well. The reason for this is because not everybody can look like that. When you look that good, other girls look up to you, and want to look just like you. This can cause them into getting into bad eating habits as well. Even not being happy with themselves because if they do not look like that they think they are fat. Girls who are not so skinny and are on the heavier side how do you think it makes them feel? There self esteem is probably lower then ever. Everyone is their own individual and following the footsteps of being that model who's job is to advertise sex through media its not worth it. Those models half the time have so many problems with health that you would not even be able to recognize. When your a model you are not considered a person anymore but a product. Sometimes the agents talk to you like your not even in the room, they are just demanding. As I mentioned your physical appearance means everything. Another big problem with becoming a model is you have free access to all manner of illicit substances. These are usually used to keep weight off and stay awake at all times for big events.
There are some positives for being a model but not as many as the negatives. The positives of being a female model are things like the income. You make a lot of money. There are so many options and different companies world wide that just look to advertise and advertise. So once you are discovered and have a good agent booking jobs from thereon out should be a breeze. You will also get to travel. When you are a female model you get to book different jobs at all different spots. You sometimes can stay at exotic locations and literally go around the world for different Fashion Shows and different shoots as well. Some scenarios not always modeling could make you feel good. When you see a finished product for example on a Magazine cover its an unbelievable feeling. Being a model the hard work could pay off, because your rise to stardom a waits. "The so called fame factor." Some female models are very well-known and famous world wide. That is if you reach to the top of the profession. For instance Heidi Klum huge model, one of the top. With this,    a lot of models get a lot of outcomes. Hosting shows, being able to start their own clothing line, being able to attend big events that only celebrities attend. That aspect of being a model is quite exciting.
As you may conclude the way media projects the female through print, magazines, television and articles is well characterized with the female form in sexuality. The female form in sexuality creates this taboo that relates to many concerns especially with being a model. Sometimes there are positives, but rarely. Media today is mostly characterized by ads that relate to the sexuality of the female. In this society today if you look around you can see that this problem is only increasing.
