The Journey Through My Academic Years

When I first started this English Composition class I wondered what is the need to write? I never thought of myself as a bad writer, but one who did not always get straight to the point. One who always had to make sure the thesis fit the topic over and over again. Our first assignment we had to explore our experiences with writing over our entire academic career. I thought that was a really good assignment because it allows one self to reflect on their past, and talk about the times they think they were successful, or could of been more successful then they wanted to be. It allows oneself as well to talk about their struggles and how teachers or professors reflected on them to help them get through their entire years of school. It also allows you to talk about yourself, and really explain year by year what you went through and when I write about myself sometimes I think it could be easy because nobody knows you better then yourself.

If you are wondering why this assignment is relevant to you, there are many reasons. Sometimes people do not understand the need to read a paper, especially because they dislike reading. The reason people should read papers is because they can learn something. When people write they usually know they are having an audience. This specific paper goes through the academic career of myself. This paper will value other students especially because they go through the same exact thing. They might learn something they never knew, or realize that they had a similar situation in some cases and it happens frequently to others. Its nice to see that there are people who are very similar to you are following a specific path like yourself. When you read this paper you will see that there were worst times then better at some points, but from thereon out I had confidence and knew that they would only get better. Sometimes that gives people that push and lesson learned that you have to believe to make something you want work. There is a reason for everything, and its only a benefit oneself. With this, I can now take on becoming a better writer, and reader, whatever it may be to make myself more literate everyday. So as I go through this journey with you on my experiences of school, I hope you learn something about myself and my academic career.

Literacy Autobiography Remix

In case you may ask yourself, "What is a remix?" I have that answer for you.

In this particular assignment, we had to explain the significance through expository writing of an item as it relates to a particular community you value. What does it say about you? How does it relate to your community? Why is it valued? When I had to think of an item that I think would teach a new way to look at taken for granted cultural values it really took time to think. I came up with the Iphone. Steve Jobs Apple Chief Executive Officer of Apple has become one of the most well-known people today. With products created like the Iphone, with its ability to do almost anything it has made its high mark in America today. In the American Culture today technology is at its finest. Apple Company which makes the Iphone is one of the biggest companies worldwide and is only expanding each and every day. The Iphone has many values, uses, relevance to modern day culture, and effects on literacy, which I will explain as you continue to read.

The American Culture has changed widely through out the years. If you go back about five years ago the Iphone was not one of the biggest things wanted. Things like the Razor, the Side Kick all those what we call old now, where so popular back then. Now as the Iphone was only made for AT&T it is now made as well for Verizon, because so many people wanted the Iphone and a lot of them did not have AT&T. The Iphone as well has many features that make things so much easier because its all compacted in one little device. Today in my culture the American Culture the Iphone is very significant for an everyday item and is relevant to you as well because you use technology everyday. It can be very convenient to anybody, especially yourself, and you can do so many different things you can not even imagine. Who knows you may already have the Iphone!

As you explore in the wonderful world of Media, I hope you understand that there are so many different forms of literacy around. The topic I choose to talk about the Media with and how I understand Media Literacy is Sex Appeal. There is just so much of it now-a-days and its so public. There are many arguments why it should be allowed because sometimes its all and all not bad, but sometimes it is really bad. It can relate to many things like anorexia, bulimia, and just weight in general. This paper can relate to you because your a person and you can just turn on the television and see that some of these commercials are so personal to the point they should not be on t.v. I am one of those people that always say, "I wish I looked like that Victoria Secret model." Basically the way that the media advertises sex appeal, mostly in the female form is excessively.

When you are doing a paper and you need to get some research half the time people use the internet. This assignment was a little different. For my research paper I did my topic on the way media projects the female through print, magazines, television and articles is well characterized with the female form in sexuality. To prove my argument I used the Suffolk Databases. This assignment can be very relevant to you because half of you have access to these. These articles are scholary articles and not information that you do not know if it is true, which happens sometimes with the ones on the internet. They are very useful and when you are doing a paper, or anything you need research for they are good to use. I learned that its so much easier. There are so many different databases with all different topics its great. In my research paper you will see different situations of advertisemnt throughout the form of a female through sexuality. I liked doing this paper because a lot of what some of the articles said is so true that I had the same exact points and ideas. You will as well learn some things that are postive about being a female model and as well some negatives. Its interesting to see that the female sexuality the way its advertised, its through so many different kind of things, several prints, magazines, televison advertisments and many more!
